Building a brighter future since 2021
Wood Mackenzie and Let’s Share the Sun have collaborated to improve energy access for those who need it most in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico. Since the first expedition in 2021, our teams have installed solar panels and energy storage systems on homes and shelters for vulnerable communities. With each project, we’re addressing critical energy needs, building resilience, and creating lasting change.
By installing solar systems at four domestic violence shelters, including Casa de la Bondad, we've helped provide life-saving energy security for women and children escaping abuse, ensuring these critical safe havens remain operational even during power outages. Our 2026 volunteer delegates witnessed first-hand how this work transforms lives, with survivors finding peace and safety thanks to reliable clean energy.
In March 2025, our fourth volunteer delegation travelled to Puerto Rico. This year, the focus remained on supporting families with critical medical needs but this time with households who had children to support. In addition to the installations, the partnership also took an important step forward. For the first time, volunteers led a solar energy workshop at a local school in Adjuntas, introducing students to the role of renewables in creating a more sustainable future. This new educational element reflects the continued evolution of the initiative and its potential to support communities not only through infrastructure, but also through knowledge-sharing and engagement.
In 2024, our third year of partnership resulted in the largest installation yet, providing 100% energy coverage to a shelter with more residents than the shelter in 2023 and expanding support to families dependent on medical devices. This year marked a significant step in ensuring more communities could access clean, reliable energy.
While the 2023 delegation focused on efforts continued from 2022, we broadened the scope to help establish improved energy security for the residents of Casa Julia, the longest operational shelter for victims of domestic violence in Puerto Rico. Back in March 2022, in collaboration with Let’s Share the Sun, the first expedition took place. We set ourselves the goal of providing solar energy and battery storage systems to 10 families in a remote Puerto Rican community in Adjuntas.
